Community voices at the heart of Walgett Shire planning

Walgett Shire Council has been busy on the road meeting with residents, local businesses and community groups to hear their ideas, concerns and priorities for the future.

At Lightning Ridge, more than 25 community members of all ages came together at sportsground planning workshops to share their vision for the town’s sport and recreation facilities.

The lively sessions generated plenty of discussion, supported by survey responses collected beforehand, which gave Council a strong picture of community priorities. Council’s Grants Officer, Andrew Rawsthorne, said the level of engagement was impressive.

“The community identified almost 30 different priorities, from big projects through to smaller fixes,” he said.

“Redeveloping the netball courts came through as a really high priority. Junior netball in the Ridge is booming, and with upgraded courts they could hold more age groups and host gala days.” […]
