Community spirit shinesat Brewarrina Races

The hard work, preparation and spirit of the Brewarrina Jockey Club committee guaranteed a fantastic Brewarrina Races on Saturday.
Behind the scenes of the six-race meet, the dedicated team worked tirelessly to ensure all visitors enjoyed themselves at the annual community event.
“We rallied as a committee,” Brewarrina Jockey Club Secretary, Belinda Colless said. “And I really think that was demonstrated at Saturday’s race meeting.”
Despite facing several challenging years marked by Covid-19, harsh weather, and regulatory hurdles, the club has not only survived but has also grown stronger. Ms Colless said this year, the Brewarrina Jockey Club members installed new infrastructure at the track and rebuilt their relationship with Racing NSW.
“We are the first race club in the west to have the new PVC railing installed at the track and that in itself was pretty big before we even started thinking about the race event,” Ms Colless said.
Infrastructure upgrades also included improved drainage and fencing around the track. Ms Colless praised the committee and club president, Tim Slack-Smith, for pushing the project over the line.
“It was a huge effort, particularly from Tim who’s been heading things up and ensuring it happened to New South Wales racing standards.”
As much as the logistics are important, it’s the happy crowds that bring Brewarrina’s race day to life.
“We were fortunate to have fantastic sponsors,” Ms Colless said.
“No community out here can do anything without sponsors, and their support really is invaluable. Sponsors didn’t just contribute money - they gave time, machinery, and manpower. We have sponsors that very quietly sit in the background and provide us with machinery, and access to some of their staff. That’s huge.” […]
