Community out in force to celebrate launch

Almost 40 portraits of well-known Australian figures from Gina Rinehart and Nathan Cleary to Hugh Jackman, Peter Dutton and even Olympic breakdancer Raygun, are now gracing the walls of the Brewarrina Visitor Information Centre as part of Australia’s most outrageous touring art exhibition.

The opening celebration took place last Thursday with a special event taking place from 5.30pm to 8pm. Guests enjoyed an exclusive first look at the exhibition. The crowd also got to enjoy drinks, canapés, and live music.

Famously judged by a sulphur-crested cockatoo named Maude, the Bald Archy is the tongue-in-cheek cousin of the prestigious Archibald Prize. But unlike its more serious sibling, the Bald Archy offers a humorous, often biting, take on celebrities, politicians, and public figures through the eyes of Australia’s most daring artists.

Brewarrina is the third stop on the prize’s national tour, and Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby expressed his enthusiasm for the exhibition’s return.
