Community comes together on Sorry Day
The Bourke community honoured National Sorry Day with a gathering in Central Park on Friday, combining it with a community engagement event which attracted a large crowd, despite the very chilly conditions.
The event was supported across the community, with agencies, businesses and organisations taking part in what was a significant date on the annual calendar.
Aboriginal Community Engagement and Cultural Officer with Maranguka, James Moore said the Sorry Day event came about after the ‘Bringing Them Home’ report in 1997 acknowledged the impact of the stolen generations.
Now, he said, Sorry Day was also about looking ahead to united communities and holding it along with the community engagement day was a way to include everyone in the event.
