Community and culture celebrated at Yellowbelly grand opening

Bourke’s main street was transformed into a performance space on Saturday when the Yellowbelly recording studio and barbershop was officially opened.

The street was blocked off to traffic, free barbecues served up sausages and hamburgers, and coffee machines were kept busy as a large crowd took part in the celebrations.

The highlight of the event was performance by renowned hip hop artists Kobie Dee and Barkaa, who delivered fierce and inspiring stories of resilience and hope to the audience.

Barkaa said she was a proud Barkindji woman determined to stand up and fight for her identity and culture - and share her personal struggles.
