The Easter Festival got off to a lively start on Good Friday morning with the ever-popular Colour Run.

Organiser, Laura Gillard, said she was thrilled with the number of entries this year, with 402 people lining up at the Bourke Wharf for the five-kilometre run through town, along the levee bank to the Back O’Bourke Exhibition Centre and back again.

Although it is technically not a race, and official times aren’t kept, the Colour Run still sees some impressive displays of speed and endurance.

This year, teenager Max Sheridan blitzed the field to come in first, but the 401 runners on his heels had just as much fun, with competitors crossing the finish line soaking wet, covered in coloured flour - and in high spirits.

Laura said the Colour Run was always a great way to kick off the Easter proceedings.

This year, extra merchandise was ordered to cater for the huge turnout, and she said almost all of it had been snapped up prior to the event or on the day.

The Colour Run, like many other Easter Festival Events, could not go ahead without the support of volunteers.

The event is a fundraiser for St Ignatius Parish School and was organised by the school’s P and F committee.

Laura thanked the NSW Fire Rescue members who manned the water hoses, and the many volunteers who made sure everyone had the time of their lives - and crossed the finish line with the evidence to prove it.
