Colly Cod Classic reels in more than 400 anglers

More than 400 anglers took to the Barwon River for the 2026 Colly Cod Classic and Carp Muster, with the popular Collarenebri event also removing almost 400 carp from the waterway.
Hosted by the Collarenebri Water Sports and Fishing Club from August 21 to 23, this year’s competition attracted 411 registrations, including 299 seniors and 112 juniors.
While native fish numbers were relatively modest, the carp muster produced a big result, with competitors hauling in 386 carp weighing a total 271.40 kilos.
The weekend also saw 166 yellowbelly recorded, while nine Murray cod were caught.
The longest yellowbelly of the competition belonged to Mal Cummins, whose 52.5cm fish earned him the $500 open prize.
In the senior division, Sam Brown took first place with a 50cm yellowbelly, while Sheryllee McDonald was second, also with a 50cm fish. Junior honours went to Gus Small with a 48cm yellowbelly, ahead of Avah Maaka with 47.5cm. […}
