Christmas in the Outback

Christmas is less than three weeks away and celebrations are ramping up across the Outback.

Bourke Shire Council has already kicked off the festivities by holding Christmas Markets on Friday, November 22nd.

The well attended markets were at a new location this year – Darling Park and the Wharf Precinct and included stalls, food, a jumping castle for the kids and plenty of fun.

But, there’s plenty more to come to boost your Christmas spirit

Bourke’s Carols at the Wharf will go ahead this year – rain hail or shine at the Bourke Wharf on Sunday 15th December from 6.30.

There’s plenty to sing about this year as the combined churches of Bourke get together to celebrate the real reason for Christmas – the birth of the Saviour and a time of goodwill to all people!

It’s time to get out (and untangle) your Christmas lights and get ready for some friendly competition. Bourke Shire Council has announced the festive fun is on again in the form of the Back O’Bourke ‘Light Up the Night’ Christmas competition.

The advice is to shine bright and compete for $100 local vouchers in these categories: Best Rural Lights Display, Christmas Spirit Display, Creative and Festive Display and Best Nativity Display

“We encourage everyone to get involved and nominate. It’s a bit of fun,” Bourke Mayor Lachlan Ford said.

“We have some people in town that do great job with their lights, and they put a lot of effort into their displays so it’s great to get a bit of recognition in the community.

“The Light up the Night competition is something council enjoys supporting, and we hope plenty of people will join in the fun.” […]
