Renovations to the Bourke Cenotaph will transform one of the community’s most important locations into an area of shade and reflection, according to Acting General Manager of the Bourke Shire Council Leonie Brown.

Council secured grant funding for the upgrade, which Mrs Brown said was expected to be completed by January.

“The work began two weeks ago to put down paving as part of the beautification of the area,” she said.

“Additional shade and seating will also be installed, and an Anzac icon will be erected in the area.

“A small raised podium with shade over it will make it more comfortable for people attending Anzac and Remembrance Day services,” Mrs Brown said.
