Celebrating the joy of Christmas

Communities across the Outback came together last week to celebrate the joy of Christmas, as residents of Bourke, Brewarrina, Goodooga, Lightning Ridge and Walgett hosted their annual community carols events.

In Bourke the Christmas carol service was held on Sunday night at the Wal Mitchell Wharf Precinct. The Bourke community embraced the spirit of Christmas and joined in enthusiastic singing of some traditional – and not so traditional – carols, with a touch of rock and roll thrown in.

Sponsored by the combined Christian churches, the event was a whole of community affair, with Ian Cole from the Bourke Christian Church acting as MC, and readings from Cec Dorrington from the Bourke Anglican Church, Pastor Lai Soqovata from the Seventh Day Adventists, Father Oche, Father Alan and Mary Anne Gordon from the Holy Spirit.
