Brewarrina and Walgett Shire Councils celebrated their staff during Local Government Week last week by publicly highlighting the many jobs and the diversity of the people that keep the local region ticking.

Social media was filled with happy faces and fun facts about local council workers.

Walgett Shire Council Mayor, Jasen Ramien said he was keen to acknowledge and thank the dedicated staff and councillors who serve the Shire.

“Over the past few years, our communities have faced significant challenges from natural disasters to everyday pressures, and our team has stood strong throughout,” Mr Ramien said.

“Our staff are often the quiet achievers, working behind the scenes during floods and fires, answering calls, grading roads, repairing water mains, mowing public spaces and ensuring our playgrounds are safe.”

Among staff in the spotlight from Walgett was Executive Assistant to the Mayor and General Manager, Lavinia Watters who joined the Walgett Shire Council team only three weeks ago after previously working at local café, Stones Throw.

Originally from a small town in England, around the same size as Walgett, Ms Watters said that has helped her feel at home in Walgett. She is loving her new role.

“I love the fast-paced environment and there are new challenges every day,” she said.

The crew at Walgett Shire is truly multi-cultural including Almas Choudhry, one of the friendly faces at the Lightning Ridge Council Office. […]
