Celebrating International Women’s Day in Bourke
Bourke High School hosted an exquisite high tea for International Women’s Day, which had originally been planned for March 8 however was postponed to Wednesday, 15 March.
Despite being unable to celebrate on the day, the afternoon was a fantastic opportunity for all women, young ladies, and girls to come together and celebrate one another.
The afternoon began with Janayah Moore sharing an Acknowledgement of Country.
After this, Ashley Harrod shared an inspirational speech and acknowledged the special women in her life. Aunty June Smith then stole the show and shared two beautiful poems, the first about International Women’s Day and the second piece as a tribute to her beautiful sisters.
To conclude the formalities, over ten lucky door prizes were up for grabs. Bourke High School is so thankful to all the local businesses who donated prizes; it was agreed that the generosity was overwhelming. A special ‘thank you’ goes to those many businesses that donated a prize.
As the formalities concluded, many cups of tea were shared over the most extravagant spread of sweet and savoury options for the High Tea. Thank you to Kristi, Grams and those others that poured their hearts into preparing the incredible meal.
The afternoon saw some fantastic activities held, where everyone had the chance to make some jewellery, try their hand at a piece of art and capture some funny snaps with the polaroid cameras. Thank you to Trudy, Mackenzie, Leona and Katie for delivering an activity.
The High Tea was an opportunity for all women, young ladies, and girls to share and celebrate the achievements of women. It was agreed that the future of Bourke is bright, with many powerful young ladies working to achieve their goals at Bourke High School.
A massive thank you goes out to everyone involved in the setup and coordination of the day.
It was truly amazing to see all women supporting one another.
