Celebrating a decade of Baiame’s Ngunnhu Festival at Bre

The 10th Baiame’s Ngunnhu Festival returns to the banks of the Ba-wun river, Weir Park, Brewarrina in April.
Celebrating through cultural events, cultural history tours, and arts market, the festival includes an opening ceremony corroboree, a closing ceremony, a live music concert and a fish feast.
Brewarrina’s Lily Shearer, a Murrawarri/Ngemba woman, started her career in cultural arts as a dancer and is Artistic Director and Co-founder of Moogahlin Performing Arts who manage the festival.
Ms Shearer said that 2025 would be the tenth year and she is calling for an extra special celebration.
“It’s been a decade of Baiame’s Ngunnhu and we are running it over four days from Wednesday 23rd April to Saturday 26th of April this year, rather than just two or three days,” Ms Shearer said.
“There will be workshops leading up to the festival that will all be held in Brewarrina – including workshops on circus, traditional dance, modern dance, and music.”
“We’re keeping other organisations like the Maranguka Community Hub in Bourke informed, because they’re really interested in bringing kids over to the workshops and we’re happy to work closely with anybody in our region who wants to bring their kids over to the workshops especially in that school holiday period.” […]
