Call to prepare kids for safety in the water

With the Bourke Memorial Swimming Pool set to reopen at the end of September, local swimming teacher Harmony Starchild is preparing for another busy season of lessons and says water safety has never been more important.

“I will be doing our normal learn-to-swim lessons again, Monday through to Saturday, babies through to adults and squad swimming,” Ms Starchild said.

Lessons begin on October 20th, a few weeks after the pool reopens. She is now in her third year of providing the local community with vital swimming skills.

“We wait a bit after the pool opens as in the first couple of weeks the water is quite cool, and the little kiddies just shut down,” she said. […]
