Building confidence with CWA public speaking program

Children from Bourke and surrounding communities are building confidence, communication skills, and public speaking ability through the CWA Far Western Group Public Speaking Competition.
Held on Tuesday 19 May, this year’s event brought together students from Bourke Public School, St Ignatius Parish School and Enngonia Public School to present prepared speeches before judges and peers.
Denise Turnbull, who has been involved with the CWA Far Western Group public speaking committee for at least 10 years, said students are given a selection of topics to choose from before presenting a two-minute speech. Topics are selected by the committee.
“They have to speak to that topic for two minutes, or as close to two minutes as they can,” Mrs Turnbull said.
“They’re given a warning bell at 30 seconds to finish.” […]
