Anyone who has tried to secure a childcare place in Bourke knows they’re hard to come by.

But there’s some welcome relief in sight, with the new extension at Bourke and District Children’s Services starting to take shape.

With the roof on and work moving steadily ahead, the project is expected to deliver 20 extra early learning places for local families when it opens later this year.

The major expansion is running to schedule, with construction of a new early childhood education and care building expected to be completed towards the end of July.

Prue Ritchie, General Manager of Bourke & District Children’s Services said the project reached an exciting milestone last week.

“Most of the construction work is completed, which is very exciting,” Ms Ritchie said.

“The walls and the frames have gone up, the roof is on, and while there’s still quite a lot of work to do, everything’s on track and we’re hoping that will be finished towards the end of July.”

The next stage of the build will include installing windows and completing the electrical, air conditioning and other internal mechanical work before the building reaches lock-up stage. […]
