A bright new star has joined the ranks of Outback Radio 2WEB announcers. Her name is Dusty Ellery and at just 12 years of age she is already showing genuine talent as an on-air announcer.

As part of its charter. 2WEB offers young radio enthusiasts the chance to learn the skills required to work in broadcast media, from live on air presenting to pre-recorded voice tracking, script writing and music selection.

Dusty, who hails from Winrae station near Enngonia, has clearly shown talent, with her easy conversation style and a confidence that belies her tender years.

2WEB volunteer announcer Heather Cameron first spotted Dusty’s talent and encouraged her to try out.

She is being tutored under the practiced eye of 2WEB Operations Manager David Sharp.

“Dusty is very intelligent and confident for her age,” Dave said.

“She has a natural flair for conversation and if she wants to, she could certainly consider a career in broadcasting in the future.

“I am very happy to have a local youngster show an interest and I am sure the listeners will enjoy Dusty’s contribution on air.”

Dusty is home-schooled on the family’s station, has a love of books and is a prolific reader.

“We don’t have a lot of screen time at home, and I prefer reading because you can use your imagination,” Dusty said.

She enjoys volunteering, is a junior CWA member and is a willing helper on the farm, looking after puppies, ducks, chooks, goats and sheep.

You can hear Dusty’s show from 4-6pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on 2WEB.
