Bright lights for Bre’s Geoff New Oval
The switch is about to be flicked at Brewarrina’s Geoff New Oval, with crews putting the final touches to the cabling for the new lighting system.
Brewarrina Mayor Vivian Slack-Smith said the entire community was excited about the lighting finally being operational.
“It’s been hard for the rugby union and rugby league teams to use the Oval because of the shorter daylight so their training has been affected, but once the lights are turned on each night from 6-9pm, they’ll make a huge difference.
“We have also completed the walking track around the oval but once again, it hasn’t been used as much as it could be because it’s too dark in the evening.
“The lights should be operational sometime next week and once the team has finished all the cabling and they switch them on, we will be able to enjoy the facilities at the Oval, the footy teams will be able to train, people can use the walking track at night and we’ll make the most of the upgrades at the Oval,” Councillor Slack-Smith said.
The lighting upgrade was possible following the successful grant application for more than $760,000 through the Stronger Country Communities Round 4.
General Manager David Kirby said O’Brien Lighting in Dubbo had been contracted to do the work to replace the current lighting which was installed in the 1980s.
