Brewarrina poised for record tourist season

Brewarrina’s famed fish traps are emerging from the floodwaters, signalling the start of what promises to be a bumper tourist season for the Bre Shire.

David Kirby, General Manager of Brewarrina Shire Council, said the combination of flowing rivers, cultural heritage projects and nearby free-camping facilities are drawing visitors from far and wide.

“We’ve got the river running, and the fish are biting,” Mr Kirby said. “We’re just starting to see the fish traps again now that the river has dropped and we’re looking forward to the winter and a big build-up into our festive and tourist season.”

Mr Kirby said that word of the renewed visibility of the Brewarrina Fish Traps – one of Bre Shire’s major tourist attractions - has spread through the caravan and camping community. […]
