Brewarrina council workers take centre stage for Local Government Week

Some of the valued staff who keep Brewarrina Shire’s roads maintained, community facilities running and essential services accessible were put in the spotlight as part of Local Government Week last week.

Brewarrina Shire Council used this year’s celebrations to introduce some of the employees working behind the scenes across the shire, highlighting the wide range of jobs carried out by local government staff.

Among those recognised is Goodooga plant operator Gavin Johnson, who has been with Council for about a year.

Mr Johnson’s work includes operating graders and rollers, traffic control and helping maintain public areas around Goodooga.

Council applauded the way Mr Johnson takes pride in maintaining the places local people rely on and enjoy, as well as the hands-on nature of working with machinery.

His role is one of those that can have an immediate and visible impact on a small community, helping keep roads and public spaces safe and maintained.

At Brewarrina Library, trainee Brandi Duke is relatively new to the Council team, having started only a few months ago.

Her role includes assisting people at the library as well as helping community members access Centrelink services.

Council highlighted that Ms Duke particularly enjoys helping people find books and other resources and welcoming locals into the library. […]
