Brewarrina Council charts new course with new Mayor

Brewarrina Shire Council has welcomed a new Mayor, long-serving Councillor Tommy Stanton, after newly elected Councillors were sworn in last week.
In his tenth year serving on Brewarrina Shire Council, Councillor Tommy Stanton becomes only the second First Nations Mayor to lead the Brewarrina community.
Previously having served as Deputy Mayor, Councillor Stanton, who was born in Brewarrina and has lived in Goodooga all his life said he was looking forward to the journey ahead.
“I am deeply honoured and grateful for the trust that the community and my fellow Councillors have placed in me and the opportunity to serve our community,” Councillor Stanton said.
“I’ve been a councillor for ten years and I think it’s time to step up and have a go at something different.
“The next four years will be interesting times, there is a lot of good things going on in the shire and we’ve got three new councillors coming aboard to be part of that.
“We will continue working for not only Brewarrina, but Goodooga and all the surrounding communities. There’s no place like your local area.”
