Bre’s Baiame Ngunnhu Festival this weekend

The 9th annual Baiame Ngunnhu Festival is on this weekend, April 19th, and 20th, with plenty of activities at Weir Park in Brewarrina.

The free festival celebrates the connection local communities have with Baiame’s Ngunnhu (the Brewarrina Fish Traps) and the Ba-wun River through ceremony, culture, creativity, and protest.

Baiame’s Ngunnhu Festival is presented by Moogahlin Performing Arts in partnership with the Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural Museum, Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Land Council, Brewarrina Shire Council and Winangali Aboriginal Child and Family Centre.

The festival kicks off with the Opening Corroboree Ceremony on Friday afternoon from 5pm. Everyone is encouraged to head down to Weir Park for a fish feast cooked up by Retta Ferguson before the corroboree ceremony.

There will be dances by Milan Dhiiyaan, Ngambaa Dhalaay, Yangkay Cultural Connect and Ngungilanha leading local young dancers from the Ngemba Dance residency. […]
