Bre Police services as normal after fire

Police services at Brewarrina will be maintained as normal following a fire that gutted the local police station building last week.
Commander of Central North police District Superintendent Gerard Lawson said that officers at Bre had resumed policing services.
“I just want to let Bre residents know that we have resumed policing services, and with the kind assistance of the SES, we are using the building across the road at the SES but we’re also arranging for a temporary demountable to be installed behind the courthouse at Bre to reestablish police services to the community,” Supt Lawson said.
“I can tell you that when you ring the Bre police number you will be connected to the Bre police or if they’re not working, you’ll come through to Bourke as usual.”
Supt Lawson said that the police are on site at Bre – able and ready to respond as usual.
“With a cooperation of the SES, we have installed some IT and other arrangements and equipment over at the SES building opposite the old police station.
In the longer term, Supt Lawson said that the police department was waiting on their insurers to determine whether the current building – at 96 Bathurst Street, Brewarrina – will be repaired or replaced.
“Either way, we expect to have a much better facility for the police that worked there and for the community,” he said. […]
