Bre Big Fish brings in huge carp haul
The Bre Big Fish competition at the weekend was not just an opportunity to brag about the one that got away – it resulted in a massive haul of invasive carp being removed from the waterways.
Spokesperson for the Bre Big Fish Club, Katrina Ward, said the huge number of carp pulled in over the two-day event showed how much the fish had bred following the floods, and the threat they posed to native species.
“We had 466 entrants for the competition, including 199 juniors, which was a great turnout,” Katrina said.
“They brought in 3,076 carp, which was an outstanding result, but it shows how many carp are in the river, because this time last year, the event saw just 33 carp caught by comparison.
