On Monday morning, Bourke police welcomed three new probationary constables to the job at Bourke Police Station.
Commander of Central North Police District, Superintendent Gerard Lawson said that these were exciting times for local police recruitment.
“These three probationary constables – Harrison Bidner from Maitland, Bethany Mathiasch from Picton and Zendai Cooper from Forster, all elected to come here and work with us in Bourke,” Superintendent Lawson said.
“It’s good to have people that want to come to Bourke as a destination, and especially when they are young people who come with a new and fresh energy.
“For the first six weeks in Bourke, these probationary constables will be given a trainer, who they’ll work alongside, and then over time, they’ll develop more skills and work more independently,” Supt Lawson said.
“We welcome these young people as part of our community, but also part of the police family. It’s important to make them feel welcome and to encourage others to get behind them.”
PC Harrison Bidner said he was very ‘excited’ to begin work at Bourke.
“I can’t wait to start my career here and see how it goes,” he said.
PC Bethany Mathiasch came all the way from Picton, southwest of Sydney, trained at Goulburn, and said she was super excited to be in Bourke. “I can’t wait,” she said. “It’s amazing”.
PC Zendai Cooper also said he was super excited to be in Bourke.
“I’m loving the sense of community here, and I’m super keen to live and work here”, he said.
Welcome to Harrison, Bethany and Zendai!
