Bourke Warriors tame Collarenebri Dogs in tough encounter

A resurgent Bourke Warriors Rugby League team knocked the Collarenebri Dogs off the top of the competition table on Sunday with a hard fought 44-28 win at Davidson Oval.
The scores were locked at 24-22 in Bourke’s favour at halftime, but the Warriors ran away with the win in the second half.
Bourke centre Jordan Elwood constantly found weaknesses in Collarenebri’s right flank, scoring four of Bourke’s nine tries.
Other try scorers for Bourke were Colin Lang, Braith Kelly, Ewan Elwood, Joel Bates, and Jamie Moore, who crashed over from 10 metres out late in the game to seal the win for the Warriors.
Hogan Shillingsworth had an unusual day with the boot, converting just three of eight attempts at conversion. Colin Lang also kicked one conversion from his one attempt.
For Collarenebri, Number 9 Lachlan Adams scored two tries and kicked a conversion and Brendan Sweeney, Kyron Walford and Jason Wright crossed for a try each.
The Dogs’ captain Matthew Button had his kicking boots on, landing three conversions from four attempts.
The ladder leading Collarenebri team suffered from the absence of a bench and only 13 players to the field.
On the other hand, Bourke had a 19 players on the roster, a full bench and plenty of firepower across the park.
Although the Collarenebri side showed lots of fight – going try for try with Bourke in the first half, the visitors were gradually worn down in the second half and ran out of puff towards the end of the game. […]
