Bourke students dive intohands-on sustainability learning

Bourke Public School students have been treated to a full day of environmental education as part of a special Sustainability Outreach Program.

“We’re very fortunate with DET to have connections with a guy called Nick Hall, and Nick coordinates getting people all together,” said Bourke Public School Principal Margaret Gordon-Poole.

“The group didn’t just visit us at Bourke Public School; they did Coonamble and a few other towns on the way as well.”

The outreach event included a range of organisations from across the state, including Sydney Zoo, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Camden Park Environmental Education Centre (EEC), Penrith Lakes EEC, Georges River EEC, and Warrumbungle National Park Environmental Education Team.

“During a full day of activities our students were broken up into different groups and they all got to have a session with each of the visiting organisations,” Ms Gordon-Poole said.

Sydney Zoo proved popular among students as they brought a collection of reptiles and other animals and incorporated Indigenous culture into the session. […]
