Bourke’s Josh Ross nominated as Police Officer of the Year

Bourke Police Office Josh Ross has been nominated as NSW Police Officer of the Year and has progressed to the finals.

On Friday 1 December Constable Ross will attend the award function in Syndey where the award winner will be announced.

Commander of the Central North Police District, Superintendent Gerard Lawson said that Constable Ross was nominated for the award because of his extensive youth work within local communities.

“As the youth officer for Central North Police District, Constable Ross leads the district’s youth engagement strategy, and amongst his peers Josh stands out.

“He goes that extra mile and does so much work off-duty and I thought it was important that he be nominated for excellence.

“His has a busy work schedule takes him to remote parts of the district in support of youth activities.”

Constable Ross has been instrumental in establishing the ‘Fight-for-Success’ programs in Brewarrina and Bourke, providing boxing coaching to troubled youths.  

On Thursdays, his day starts at 5am with a drive to Brewarrina to deliver the program prior to school starting before returning to Bourke to run the program in the afternoon at the Bourke high school, and again in the evening for those not attending school.

On Friday evenings he partners with the Bourke PCYC to run programs for 5–12-year-olds. […]
