Bourke’s Harrison Simmons wins silver at national titles

Bourke’s boxing sensation Harrison Simmons is at it again, taking out silver at the national titles on the NSW Central Coast last week.

Talented young boxer, Harrison Simmons has another award to add to his collection after bringing home silver at the 2024 Australian Amateur Boxing Titles which were held in Gosford on November 28th – 30th.

Competing over three rounds, lasting three minutes each, Harrison won two fights and was defeated in the final bout of his division.

Harrison’s family travelled from Bourke to Gosford to support him, including his mother, Aimee Sutton, Father James Simmons and Grandmother Tanya Nean.

Now enjoying a short well-deserved break from the ring, Harrison will continue training and next compete in February in a fight scheduled in Dubbo which has been arranged by his coach Chris Hallford from Fighting Arts, Dubbo.

Now aged 16, when only fourteen years old, Harrison was up against 25-year-old Kieran Pittman from Orange at the ‘Thunder Down Under’ contest in Dubbo and lost on a split decision.

“It was a big step up for Harrison, fighting a 25-year-old man and him only being 14; that was a tough ask,” coach Chris Hallford said.

“He had only fought in the 14-16 years Juniors division before and his opponent has had three matches with three wins against Harrison’s two wins and one loss, all in Juniors.

“Harrison is a very talented boxer and is going to be very good fighter. He landed some very clean hits and had a great performance technically.” […]
