Bourke’s Butchery holds inaugural Cook-Off
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a barbecue king - or queen - a new event being held in Bourke is just for you.
On July 1, the inaugural Bourke Camp Oven and Smoking Cook Off will be held at the Port of Bourke Hotel, with the winner earning bragging rights as Bourke’s best cook.
Ernie Delany from Bourke Butchery is one of the organisers behind the event and he hopes it will become an annual event.
“We came up with the idea because we were talking to some of the town’s best backyard cooks’,” he said.
“It all happens at the Port of Bourke Hotel on July 1 when we will have the camp cook off and smoking contest, with four categories in each.
“You can’t just turn up on the day, you must register at the Bourke Butchery by June 23 and tell us what you need for your entry.
“There are four categories in each, with chicken, lamb, sausages and beef for the Camp Oven and chicken, lamb, beef, and pork for the Smoking contest.
“The winners of each of the categories get a $250 cash prize donated by local sponsors and trophies donated by Bourke’s Butchery. […]
