Despite soaring temperatures, the Bourke Rotary Club’s annual Seniors Luncheon went ahead last Saturday, bringing together around 30 seniors from across the community for a much-loved Christmas tradition.
Those who attended the long running event included Bourke residents as well as seniors from Rivergum Lodge and the hospital’s residential aged care facility.
“We had about 30 attendees to enjoy a cold lunch,” Rotary Club Secretary and Treasurer Lisa Crothers said.
With several Rotary members unavailable, community volunteers stepped in to help on the day.
“We would like to thank Ros, Melanie and Grace Milgate and Christopher Morrall who helped set up, serve lunch and clean up,” Ms Crothers said.
“Bourke Council waived the hire fees of the Bourke Exhibition Centre, which was fantastic. Transport was also provided for those who needed it, thanks to support from Thomas Foods who loaned their bus and a driver to transport seniors this year.”
“It’s a real community event and everyone had a lovely time.”
