The Bourke War Memorial Swimming Pool re-opens for the 2024/2025 summer swimming season this Saturday 28 September.

Pool Manager Scott Parnaby said that, after the inconvenience of construction works last swimming season, he was looking forward to an uninterrupted summer of fun at the Bourke Pool.

“With recent improvements to the main pool, a rebuild of the learners pool, and the construction of the new canteen and entry, we are now working hard to ensure that all facilities are ready to cater for pool users by the end of September,” Scott said.

“We will also have the usual hot foods, ice creams and refreshments at the canteen on a daily basis.”

Aside from early morning lap swimming and the usual ‘fun-in-the-sun’ swimming over summer, Scott said that Miss Harmony’s Swimming lessons are available for the toddlers and there is plenty of scope for water exercises and aqua aerobics for the senior citizens.

“We have plenty of the older ones come in during the season for water walking because it’s a low-impact, weight bearing exercise that minimises stress on the joints and the risk of injury,” Scott said.

For all ages, the pool is a perfect venue for regular swimming or walking sessions to improve general health and fitness.

Swimming and water walking reduces the forces that so often jar muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones, lessening the burden on the body.
