Bourke hosts bird detective group

The secret life of birds at Bourke was the drawcard for a group of keen birdwatchers last week, with 17 people tasked with tracking down and identifying the species surrounding the district.
The group identified 128 species of birds within a 50 kilometres radius of Bourke and 82 species within a 10-kilometre radius of Bourke.
The team has members from across NSW, including from Armidale, Taree, Casino, Bathurst, Meadow Flat and Hornsby.
They’re called ‘atlassers’ and the team were one of several conducting field trips on behalf of the NSW Bird Atlassers organisation, which monitors birds in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and the Tasman Sea east to Lord Howe Island. […]
