Bourke High brings authors to the bush

Bourke High School students and the wider community will have more opportunities to meet the people behind the books they read, with the school successfully securing a place in the 2027 ‘Australia Reads LitUp’ program.

The live literature initiative helps Australian schools and communities host authors and illustrators, with Bourke High Teacher Librarian Barbara McGuigan putting together the successful application.

Ms McGuigan said she was particularly pleased Bourke had been selected given the limited opportunities available to communities in western NSW.

“It was great that we got accepted,” she said.

A major factor in the school’s application was its approach to author visits, with Bourke High regularly inviting smaller surrounding schools to participate. […]
