Bourke gets $4.6 million to strengthen the local airstrip

Bourke Shire Council will receive almost $5 million to upgrade and strengthen the airstrip at Bourke Airport courtesy of the special NSW Regional Development Trust Fund.

The NSW government is seeking to boost connectivity and resilience in western NSW with up to $15 million in funding for runway upgrades and safety improvements to accommodate larger and heavier planes.

The Minister for Western NSW, Tara Moriarty, was in Bourke last Thursday to announce that the government is working closely with the Bourke Shire Council, Central Darling Shire Council and Edward River Council to future proof access at three priority airstrips.

The funding and work will enable better essential and emergency services access and allow for a greater range of operations at airports at Bourke, White Cliffs and Deniliquin.

Bourke Airport will receive $4.66 million for a major upgrade, $5.76 million has been allocated for improvements at White Cliffs airstrip, and $4.57 million has been set aside for enhancements at the Deniliquin Airport. […]
