Bourke fight night packs a punch as locals steal the show

The Bourke Bowling Club was ringside central on Saturday as fighters, families and fans packed in for a high-energy night of boxing at the inaugural Bourke Fight Night.

Organiser Troy Richards, who runs Crossroads Boxing out of Nyngan, admitted he had early concerns about numbers in the lead-up, with rising costs and travel expenses weighing heavily on the event. But those fears were quickly put to rest.

“We got an excellent crowd in the end over 400 people, and everyone was thrilled. The Bourke Bowling Club was happy, and it was an impressive venue. We had plenty of spectacular boxing action and no trouble at all, so it was fantastic,” he said.

The night featured a mix of experienced amateur bouts and exhibition fights, but for Mr Richards, it was the local talent that made the event.

“The highlights are always the locals, it just means everything to the crowd,” he said.
