Bourke boxer set for biggest fight yet

Sixteen-year-old Bourke boxer Harry Simmons will take on the toughest

challenge in his successful boxing

career, stepping into the ring this Saturday  at Dubbo’s Amaroo Hotel to fight for an Australian Global Title.

His coach, Chris Hallford of Fighting Arts Dubbo, says this is the biggest bout of Harry’s career so far.

“He will be fighting for an Australian Global Title which is probably the biggest amateur title that can be won in Australia,” Mr Hallford said.

Harry, who has already gained a solid reputation in regional boxing circles, will face 18-year-old William Hogben from Orange. The pair will go head-to-head in the 63kg lightweight division.

“They’re very evenly matched,” Mr Hallford said. “William’s had about 17 fights and won most of them. He’s beaten a couple of my other top fighters, so this is Harry’s biggest challenge.”

A win would cement Harry’s position as the top junior boxer in the country.

“If he goes out and wins this, he’s the best junior in Australia,” Mr Hallford said. “I daresay a few people will then be after him and will try and take his scalp.”
