Bourke-based author Heather Cameron has taken home another literary honour, this time at the Authors Book Launch and Expo held recently in Melbourne.

Ms Cameron won the Gold Award at the 2025 ABLE Golden Book Awards for Autobiography of the Year. The recognition was for her autobiographical trilogy Never Underestimate a Woman, which reached number one on Amazon’s bestseller list. The first part was released in 2023, the second early in 2024 and the last instalment came out earlier this year.

“I knew I’d made it to the finals,” Ms Cameron said. “The books were sent in last year to be looked at by a panel of six judges. One of them was the Victorian Minister for Education which was amazing, and I got to meet her at the Expo.

“I’ve written my books as though I’m talking to the reader. People tell me they feel like they already know me. That’s the best feedback I could ask for. I never thought I’d be a writer, I left school at 16 and had never read a full book.” […]
