Bourke artist Merren Turnbull has notched up another success, taking out first prize in the coveted Outback Archies ‘Two Dimensional’ category last week.

Merren considers herself an accidental artist who found her talent late in life - and it was another successful Bourke artist who helped untap her hidden skills.

“I never thought of myself as a painter, ever,” Merren said. “But I went along to a class with Jenny Greentree at the Back O’Bourke gallery in 2017, loved it and discovered I could paint!

“I am still amazed at what comes out of a blank canvas and now I have people asking me to do paintings for them and I sell most of them.

“But when I started it was to find something creative to do, and I don’t have much time what with looking after kids and a house, a husband, family, the dogs, the farm - it was just for fun.
