Bourke 150th Show declared a huge success
The 150th Bourke Show on Saturday has been declared a huge success by the organising committee.
Secretary of the Bourke Show Society Lilly Hand said that the crowd numbers were around 1500 and everything went pretty much to plan.
“We were pretty excited about that’” Lilly said. “The rain didn’t cause many issues other than prevent a few people from out of town being able to attend. Overall, though, it was a great day.”
Special highlights for the 150th celebration included the return of the bull sale and a memorabilia display of past show items.
“The bull sale was great with the majority of bulls selling on the day” Lilly said.
“The display of past show items was well received. Laura Gillard made a presentation to put on the TV screen of all old photos and articles. We asked people to bring in some old things, like trophies and plaques which really added to the display. I saw things from my own family that I had no idea existed!”
While there were concerns when the show was forced to change from its usual date, due to a clash for sideshow operators, the decision was a good one, according to Lilly who said the turnout of the sideshow operators was fantastic. []
