Boosting Bourke’s appeal on a national stage

Social media has propelled Bourke’s attractions into the national spotlight, and it all started with a search for a new captain for the iconic Jandra.

According to Bourke Shire Council General Manager Leonie Brown, the online exposure which resulted in successfully hiring a new captain for the Jandra, has triggered broader interest in the region.

“In response to the positive national exposure that Council received from the media, former Bourke resident, Amelia Mansell, the granddaughter of Russell Mansell who built the PV Jandra, reached out to the Council’s Economic Development Manager, Mel Milgate with a proposal to write a feature article on the Back O’Bourke for Caravan World magazine,” Mrs Brown said.

Caravan World, Australia’s longest-running caravan publication, has been a trusted guide for caravanners for over 55 years, with reviews on caravans, camping gear, and travel destinations.

Amelia’s feature, titled “Back O’Bourke: An Iconic New South Wales Adventure,” showcased Bourke’s highlights, including the Percy Hobson mural, Back O’Bourke Exhibition Centre, the Jandra river cruise, Toorale and Gundabooka National Parks, and the panoramic views from Mount Oxley.[…]
