Big plans to hook kids into fishing

Forming a Junior Fishing Club in Bourke is not “dead in the water” but plans to launch have now been delayed until next year.

There’s been a lot of talk in the community about a creating a Bourke and District Junior Fishing Club, with local resident, Mick Whitbread the driving force behind the idea.

“I’ve lived here in Bourke all my life, and now I’m a dad of four young kids,” Mick said.

“My son is just getting into the fishing with me, and I thought forming a club for young people would be a way to teach the kids a bit more about the river and fishing.

“It would be good to see other kids out and, on the river, as well and it will give the kids in the community and the district something to do.”

Unfortunately, the meeting scheduled for last Monday at the Bourke Swimming Pool was not well attended. Aware of how busy the community is at this time of year; Mick has not been discouraged and will reschedule the meeting for a time in the new year.
