Big crowd sees Toulon Factor win Brewarrina Cup

A big crowd turned out to see noted frontrunner Toulon Factor win the feature race at Brewarrina on Saturday.

The overall winner of 14 races since September, including at Armidale, Mudgee, Warren, Narrabri, Nyngan and Brewarrina, the 9-year-old grey gelding has on most occasions established mid race leads of up to 10 lengths and romped to victory.

Not so in the 1200 metres Zeus Global and Beds On The Barwon-Brewarrina Cup, Brewarrina Cup when the Jane Clement, Mendooran trained Toulon Factor was taken on for the lead by several rivals, from the outset.

With regular rider apprentice Gabrielle Johnston in the saddle, Toulon Factor ($2.20 favourite) looked vulnerable when holding only a slender margin turning for home however responded gamely to race away and win by almost three lengths from the Queensland trained Roll Up (Zoe Hunt, $3) and Line Of Law (Hollie Hull, $5.50).
