Barbarians beaten by Pumas after hard fought first half

The Bre-Bourke Barbarians were overrun by Warren Pumas at Warren on Saturday after a close half time score.

According to Barbarians Team Manager John Milgate, the first half was a tough contest with the Barbarians holding their own against last year’s premiers.

Leading by just 19-15 at the break, and with two tries each, Warren went on to score another five tries in the second half.

For the Barbarians Hudson Higgins and Sam Willoughby scored a try each and new recruit Bailey Desmond kicked one conversion and a penalty.

For Warren Harry Goodard, Jason McCarthy, Hagan Size and Mac Symons all scored tries and Joe Hamblin kicked four conversions and a penalty goal.

Team Manager John Milgate said after a good contest in the first half, the Barbarians lost control in the second half – worrying about refereeing decisions and a lack of match fitness.

“The Warren players took their opportunities in that second half, and we didn’t” John said.

“Young Will Garnsey was a standout for the Barbarians in his first game playing halfback, and Will Mitchell, Hudson Higgins and Will Foristal had great games for the Barbarians.” […]
