The Australia Day Citizen of the Year awards recognise the people of our communities who give generously of their time, energy and heart. Our award winners are people who embody the spirit of our communities of Bourke, Brewarrina and Walgett.

In ceremonies across the Shires, these outstanding citizens showed what it truly meant to be Australian, showing dedication to their neighbours and communities, lending a hand when they were needed and sharing their skills and talents to enrich their communities. Outback NSW also proudly recognises three Order of Australia medal recipients. Congratulations to our Citizens of the Year and our OAM winners.

Bourke’s Citizen of the Year is Ernie Delany, a man who has made an outstanding contribution to the community through his tireless volunteering and deep involvement in local sporting and community life. In presenting his award at the Bourke Australia Day ceremony in Darling Park on Monday, General Manager Leonie Brown said Ernie gave selflessly of his time, energy and skills wherever and whenever they were needed.
