Aussie Hay Runners at Walgett – It’s a hand up, not a hand out

In response to the bushfires in November, Aussie Hay Runners headed to Walgett Shire last Friday, loaded with feed for graziers.

The convoy of 27 trucks was loaded with premium hay donated from all over Victoria to assist our fire-affected farmers.

Last November’s fast-moving bushfire near Walgett burned more than 20,000 hectares in the Narran Lake Nature Reserve, threatening lives, properties and businesses, impacting community members and landowners.The Hudson fire at Glengarry, sparked by lightning, burned for days, and destroyed several buildings.

The struggle of farmers affected by this disaster came to the attention of Linda Widdup, founder of Aussie Hay Runners (AHR).

Linda is from Carlisle River in rural Victoria and in 2019 she saw a Facebook post about drought affected farmers in Dunedoo. Farmers were so desperate, they were selling their animals because they couldn’t water or feed for them, she said.
