All the way with the CWA

The Country Women’s Association has been the mainstay of country regions for over one hundred years and local branches are always keen to welcome new members.
Bourke’s Denise Turnbull is a great example of a CWA stalwart, and she is encouraging other women to support and join their own local group.
Heavily involved in the Association, Mrs Turnbull is secretary of the Enngonia CWA branch as well as President of the Far West Branch.
“While our branch at Enngonia is going well, we can always use more members,” Mrs Turnbull said.
“At times we struggle to raise funds because we’re out of the way. There’s a Bourke CWA branch as well and we find ourselves dipping in the same stream all the time to raise funds.”
Women of any age are welcome to join a CWA branch with those Under 18 classed as junior members. However, the CWA is usually linked to older women and Mrs Turnbull said this can be a problem.
“We are an ageing organization, and there’s no way of denying that” she said.
“So many of our great members are becoming older and need help themselves.
“We realise it’s a big ask for women who work to also have time to volunteer. We’re aware that most working women also have to worry about caring for their children, but joining CWA is so rewarding when you do make the effort. […]
