The Brewarrina Historical Society is breathing new life into the town’s past through an ambitious digitisation project - and for renowned educator and author Kaye Schofield, it is also a deeply personal journey.

Ms Schofield’s family has long ties to Brewarrina. Her parents ran the Hotel Brewarrina for 13 years, her grandmother managed the Hotel Barwon for two decades, and other relatives were also publicans in the town.

That connection sparked her interest not only in the hotels themselves, but in the businesses and people who shaped Brewarrina’s main street.

Ms Schofield has written a book, Shooting Stars: The History of the Brewarrina Picture Theatre 1922–1987, and is working on another book about the local cordial factory. […]
