Agricultural Show team excels

In addition to the usual sheep and chickens that make up the agricultural studies program, this year Bourke High School students have been tasked with the care of a pair of stud-registered Murray Grey heifers.

They have also received six Merino wether lambs for the School’s Wether Challenge in Dubbo in August.

The event involves 90 schools across the state and the objective is to feed and prepare competitive and commercially relevant animals for wool and meat, from the same genetic base. This will be the third consecutive year Bourke High School will be involved in the program.

Angus Beveridge from the Dubbo National Ram Show & Sale Committee said the keenness of both the students and staff of the schools to participate and develop their agriculture curricula with the Merino wethers had been terrific. […]
