There was a corner of the Gold Coast that was truly Bourke over the long weekend, with the annual Back to Bourke reunion attracting more than 100 former residents set to party.
Craig Moran is one of the driving forces behind the Bourke reunion which is gathering in numbers every year. He said the Gold Coast reunion had a simple purpose - to reconnect friends and remember shared experiences in their hometown.
The venue for the reunion also had a Bourke connection, with former Bourke boy ‘Fox’ Robinson, now a successful businessman, hosting the event at his Coolangatta Airport International Hotel.
“The Gold Coast didn’t know what hit it, it was a big turn out with 80 rooms booked at Fox’s Airport International and 30 or more staying elsewhere,” Craig said.
“I’ve always said you can have Bourke reunions anywhere you like, and in previous years we have had reunions at Centennial Park in Sydney, at Southwest Rocks, and in Dubbo and when Foxy contacted me and suggested we catch up at his hotel - well, what could be better?
